MISSION STATEMENT: To protect and restore natural resources, open space and other public areas by minimizing negative environmental impacts, utilizing appropriate materials in structures and landscapes and advocating comprehensive planning for a sustainable community.
Goals
Short Term
- Develop a tree preservation plan based upon a tree inventory and urban management standards. This will provide quantifiable/measurable ecological services that will demonstrate the environmental and financial benefits of these services.
- Bring back/celebrate Arbor Day (2nd Friday in April). Everyone plant ONE tree or shrub on their property with the caveat that it be the right plant in the right spot.
- Provide lighting, maintenance and structural improvements to parks and bike path to insure safety and security.
- Utilize garden and nature clubs to maintain specific areas (like adopt a highway program).
Long Term
- Plan or direct underground utility placement or improve above ground utilities placement to promote safety and aesthetics.
- Maintain green areas next to the river by not permitting development within a determined footage area.Connect people with parks and natural areas. Be concerned about both sides of the river.
- Concerns about river degradation and storm water runoff. Protect water quality.
